And just like that…it’s October! My favorite month in my favorite season. Summer seems to be hanging on here in Maryland with 80-90’s this last week, but I think we are finally turning the corner with cooler temps on the horizon. Alluring Libra is dominating this month until the 22nd, and then it’s clairvoyant and intuitive Scorpio’s time to shine.
Some stones that are associated with October are Opal and Jasper. We’ve been hollerin’ about this Moon Phase ring with Black Opal since it hit the shop, and I’m putting it on blast again because it’s such a sweet piece. Opal gets its name from the Sanskrit upala, which means “precious gem”. To the Ancient Romans, Opal was a symbol of purity and hope, calling it the “Queen of Gems”. Opal is known to soothe the emotional body, as well as encouraging optimism, enthusiasm and creativity.
Jasper has been featured semi-recently in other gift guides, and we have so many awesome options for this versatile stone. Jasper supports and sustains a sense of peace during stressful times, bringing tranquility and wholeness to broken spirits. These simple chokers with purple or green Jasper are super cute and hella budget friendly at just $18.
Looking for some straightforward, stunning hoops? These Jasper earrings representing Earth and our Moon are just that – and they’re now offered in silver, too! Each pair is completely unique since each Jasper bead is beautifully one-of-a-kind in its own way. Bonus? Another affordable alternative at only $20 per pair!
Yes, I always push the zodiac candles because they smell soooooo freakin’ good and have a fun surprise in the gooey, waxy center! I mentioned the one for Libra last month, which is Seasalt Orchid scented with a piece of prized Aventurine. Scorpio gets to sniff the tangy aromas of Caribbean Teakwood with a pretty Rose Quartz gift inside. This fragrance is infused with natural essential oils, including cedarwood, patchouli, black pepper and pimento berry. Warning: The candle is not edible, even though it smells yummy enough to eat.
Rose Quartz fosters empathy, reconciliation and forgiveness of others. Lowering stress and tension in the heart, this stone clears out anger, jealousy and resentment of others – allowing heart issues to heal. Need this kind of mending in your life? Make our popular protective charm bracelet with Rose Quartz (love) a part of your healing process.
Scorpio, or Scorpius as it is also referred to, quite literally means “scorpion”. In Latin, it’s known as Scorpionis, “creature with the burning sting”, and in Greek it’s Skorpios. There are two annual meteor showers associated with Scorpio. The first is the Alpha Scorpiids, which begin on or about April 16th and end around May 9th. The second is the June Scorpiids, which peak on or about June 5th annually.
Mythologically, to the Greeks this constellation represents the creature sent by Hera to eliminate Orion the Hunter, forever feuding in the heavens with this clawed creature. The Oriental culture recognized this pattern of stars as part of the Dragon, while the Polynesians saw it as a fishhook.
It has thirteen stars with known planets, with the brightest one in the constellation being the red supergiant star of Antares (Alpha Scorpii), which is one of the most dazzling stars in the night sky. Fun Fact: Because Antares radiates much of its energy in the infrared part of the spectrum, its bolometric luminosity (the total energy radiated by an object at all wavelengths) is about 65,000 times that of the Sun.
Want to harness that kind of star power around your neck? You can!
The ruling planets for Scorpio are Pluto and Mars, two small but mighty allies to have on your side. Mars is the planet of outward activity and animal passion. Pluto, who is named after the ancient Roman god of the Underworld, reflects the deepest parts of the human soul. These are two celestial powerhouses that are available in a plethora of preferences – see for yourself!
